This is a very good guide book to some of the out of the way- lesser known and some of the better known crab decks, restaurants and tiki bars on the Chesapeake Bay. Whether you have a boat or a car this has directions and will give you a good idea of places to eat. Even if you feel you know the area well there are probably some hidden gems in here for you to discover.The address, phone number, web site, county, latitude, longitude, body of water, dockage and atmosphere meter are listed. There are a few words about the food and the place and surroundings. A few of the listings have small black and white pictures; although a picture would have given a much better idea of what the eating place was like, than the atmosphere meter and have been an enhanced use of space.
There is good advice on calling and planning. The indexes are excellent. They include: Virginia crab decks and tiki bars; restaurants are listed by bodies of water, cities and restaurant name.

Great resource!
I'm familiar with most of the local Baltimore haunts, but I'm enjoying the adventure of trips to new crab destinations. The book gives directions by land and by sea. And, I love the articles detailing each locations' decor and menu.
The book and companion web site with photos are a terrific guide to the Chesapeake's best "island time" places. Not quite Key West, but good for Bawlmer Hon!
This stays on our boat as we enter different creeks and waterways on the chesapeake we take a look at the dock bar options. I highly recommend Hard Yacht Cafe in Bear Creek!
I rec'd this for Christmas and was so excited! The day after, my husband and I went on a long drive thru Dorchester Cty, MD...Taylors's Island, Hoopersville, Bishops Head... planning to stop for lunch at 1 of several restaurants listed in the book. While a couple were closed (maybe due to holiday) we did stop at the ISLAND GRILL in Madison, MD and had an excellent lunch. FRIED OYSTERS, SHRIMP STEW & CHEESESTEAK SUB & couple of beers. Nothing fancy...very cool old general store now rest. but descriptions in book were good...pictures really would have added alot to the book especially of the front and water views. (This looked out at parking lot at marina) but that was ok. They took the guesswork out for us to find our own spot. I just ordered it for a girlfriend who is a tiki bar kinda gal! I also have been to about 15 of the restaurants listed and some are way out of the way so the writers did good legwork!I like this book very much!
A great source for all of the Tiki Bars in the area. Very well written. I would have easily given the book a 5 star rating if the authors had included pictures. Not sure why they did not. One of the best things about the crab decks and tiki bars in the Chesapeake area is all of the character they possess. They really missed the boat on this aspect, although I would still highly recommend the book to anyone who is interested in this sort of thing.
Can we get a second edition with pictures? It would make for a great coffee table piece.
Good description of the restaurants / bars, obviously well researched. However, this book would have been so much better with some photos of the places. When you're talking about Tiki huts, you're not really all that interested in the menu - you're interested in the ambiance of the place. A few color photos would have made this an excellent coffee table book, or something to hand to a guest coming to visit the Chesapeake. But who's going to read 200 written descriptions of buildings and menus? To be fair, each article does describe the ambiance of the restaurant, but a picture is worth a thousand words....
