The main character and his family are quite eccentric and there are some very funny sequences yet the other story within the book of the Japanese woman `asylum seeker' looking for peace and sanctuary is so touching it brought tears to my eyes. The lovely relationship that develops is expressed so sensitively. I recommend this book highly.
